January 8th (Tuesday): Anchoring in Action. James Rolph

If you know NLP you know how to use anchoring, right? While the basics of anchoring are pretty simple and well covered at practitioner level, the practicalities of utilising this basic NLP skill in live contexts is quite often overlooked. This session will cover:

  • Adapting anchoring to the context

  • ‘Bridging’ for kinaesthetic anchoring

  • Anchoring Mnemonics – remembering where you put what

Jan 24th (Thursday) Milton Language: The power of persuasive language: Prue Canham

Prue Canham will be running a practical session to help you experience, practice and use some of the many patterns of language derived from Milton Eriksson. She will provide handouts on the main structures of Milton language patterns. Exercises can be around constructing sentences with one or more patterns, making up a story round the room, and spotting the patterns.

As we have experienced with many speakers, this hypnotic language of persuasion is very powerful in everyday use and this will be a great chance to learn more about it and practice it.

Feb 12th (Tuesday) Patterns of thinking and language Phil Jones

A brief exploration to the structure of change and metaphor based upon the work of Charles Faulkner as he presented at the NLP conference last November. This is a drastic simplification of his work, but still revealing.

On the night I presented a simple model. If you want a complicated and detailed framwork for conceptualising metaphor, then here it is

Feb 21st (Thursday) Chaining anchors and collapsing anchors Tim Hodgson

Building upon the excellent session on anchoring with James X, Tim promises a 'pedal to the metal' hands on experience of practical applications of anchoring. Have you ever wanted to be able to easily create a powerful and confident state on demand? Have you ever wanted to break the link between a situation and its negative energy? Have you ever wanted to find a way to move from being stuck to taking rapid action? Here's how.

We're going to get practical experience of...
- creating a stacked resource anchor
- collapsing a negative anchor
- creating an anchor chain

March 11th (Tuesday) Parts Integration Pete Sinfield

Have you ever had those times when you wish you could ‘change’ and be more resourceful?
Perhaps a habit keeps coming back to haunt you or you get stuck in a rut, with that little voice in your head that reminds you “You can’t do it!”. It’s as though you are having an internal battle within yourself, in wanting to move forward, yet seeming to ‘fall back again’. If this is the case, our next session on ‘Parts Integration’ may be your escape route. The session will be lead by Pete Sinfield as part of our ‘Hands on Sessions’.

Pete has recently retired from full time teaching where he spent over 30 years coaching students in Accelerated Learning Techniques and building their confidence to study more effectively.
He is a Master Practitioner in NLP and a Neuro-Semantic Meta-Coach (he prefers the title ‘Cognitive Behaviour Coach’). Currently, he is still teaching an evening course on NLP processes (3 Short Courses) at The Huntingdonshire Regional College and researching into ‘minimal’ techniques, which individuals can use for Self-Coaching.

The evening session will follow the format of:
• Demonstration of his version of ‘Parts Integration’, adapted from Robert Dilts’ book ‘Beliefs: Pathways to Health and Well-Being’.
• A practice session: where you can try it out for yourself.
• A final discussion and comments session.

March 13th (Tuesday): Mark Spall Overcoming Anxiety, Fear and Phobias

Phobias are probably the most elegant of mental strategies. They are just amazing and stand testament to the incredible capabilities of the Human Being. You should be proud of your phobia! Oh Sure!

If you are a phobia sufferer the last thing on your mind is to stand back and admire your phobia; it restricts your life, it’s embarrassing, frustrating and leaves one feeling stupid and guilty. It’s something to be battled with, where mind over matter – logic vs. emotion - compete. However, the more you wrestle with it – the tighter it holds onto you. And the battle continues.

Something has to change. It’s time for a reframe. Whether you are a phobia sufferer or not, phobias are a thoroughly interesting topic for NLP’ers as they touch on so many areas of NLP.

Mark is an NLP Master Practitioner and specialises on Phobias. In this session Mark will share with you his understanding of the Phobia strategy and how NLP and EFT techniques can be effective interventions. Mark is founder of Phobia Freedom – www.phobia-freedom.com and is author of ‘The Phobia Freedom Workbook’. He and his associates at Phobia Freedom have helped many people overcome Phobias and lead fuller lives.

Expect an entertaining session, packed with valuable information, lively discussion and experiential learning as we try out some of his techniques.

April 10th (Tuesday): Tim Hodgson 'The Hero's Journey - exploring the human psyche

Each of us is on a journey. An adventure through life, an exploration, an opportunity to go where no other explorer has been before. The journey is unique to us, and only we can take that journey. Yet when we look at people's individual paths, we find that certain patterns emerge. Taken together, those patterns show where we are on our journey, and what we can expect to experience. They offer us the chance to learn from those who have gone before us. These archetypes, these stories, recur in myth and legend throughout history, yet reveal so much about what is going on for each of us - our strengths, our weaknesses and our challenges. From Innocent to Sage, from Warrior to Magician, each of us can learn from the archetypes encoded in humanity.

Tim will explore the world of archetypes with a brief look at the classic NLP Satir categories before moving on to look at the heroic archetypes that are woven through our lives, and help you understand where you are on your own heroic path.

May 8th (Tuesday): Lynne Kerry The "Graves" Values model

Lynne Kerry is back continuing her theme of personal values. This model was originally developed by Dr. Clare Graves (now deceased) a contemporary of Abraham Maslow. His Values Theory is concerned with what a person’s values are and not what they should be. It addresses questions like:
• what are human values,
• how are they created,
• what stages of development do they go through and
• how do they change over time?

Value Systems themselves are non-judgmental. This model doesn’t argue that there is a single best system or a qualitative hierarchy. Instead it provides a map revealing why a value system is appropriate to its context, why particular solutions best fit certain sets of problems, and what must change if change is to occur.

This session will offer a brief description of the eight human developmental levels so far defined and will demonstrate evidence for the levels in personal growth, organizational development and cultural/political change. In particular it will…
• Explore how values originate, evolve and change and how they affect our thoughts and actions.
• Identify the deeper needs and hidden agendas which explain differences in attitude and behaviour
• Demonstrate how modelling someone’s operating values increases your influence

June 12th (Tuesday): Michael Beale Further Seduction, the NLP way

Following on from the highly interestring and well attended session on seduction last year, Michael provides a follow up session. You don't have to have come to the first session to find this interesting and useful.

Michael has been studying and experimenting with NLP based techniques to help both women and men seduce their partners.  Following on from his session on the language of influence, this session looks a a specific application, that has wider applications as well.

July 10th (Tuesday): Jamie Smart The Magic Minute: Your Key for Cracking the Unconscious Code

People will tell you everything you need to know in order to help them in the very first minute, as long as you can see, hear & utilise their unconscious messages. Online NLP forums are full of people asking "What NLP technique should I use for a client who has [x, y or z]", but the honest answer is "It depends on how your client is modelling their reality". Fortunately, they'll tell you exactly how they're doing it in the very first minute. In this session, participants will discover how to tune in to this 'magic minute', how to make sense of the "unconscious code" their clients use, then influence them to make changes.

Jamie was our most popular speaker last year and returns with a special session and new topic for us.

August 14th (Tuesday): John Digby How To Help Clients In Just One Session using EFT

EFT and NLP work as a synergy, both complementing and supercharging the other. John hopes you'll find it intriging, especially as he offered the alternative title: "How I stopped Being an Alcoholic in Just 20 Minutes!"

You will go away with the rudiments of how EFT works and how to perform it for every-day upsets. John will provide handouts for you to practice at home or in the workplace where you will see EFT actually working “at your fingertips”! This will not be a presentation you will forget in a couple of days, with the literature you can actually get involved and hopefully may want to to take it further.

September 11th (Tuesday): Emma Dalrymple Clean Language Techniques

Group modelling using the “Training Attention” approach: This is a group process combining the theories of symbolic modelling & clean language, NLP and systemic thinking. Caitlin Walker (MD of Training Attention) , Nancy and colleagues have worked with the Police, Army, LEAs, Welfare to Work organisations and the NHS developing a process for modelling diversity within and between teams, for purposes, including equal opportunities training, conflict management and improving learning environments. The process is also being taught in an Open University Module named practical Thinking.

The session will give you an experience of the process and an opportunity to find out more about this new, dynamic development.

October 9th (Tuesday): Gary Foster The shocking truth about hypnosis

Gary Foster is a hypno-analyst. I heard him speak recently and it was one of the best sessions I have heard - informative, very thought provoking and provocative. This session is not for the senstive.

There's a state of mind where anyone can achieve success in something they once thought difficult or impossible. Gary will show us how to discover this state and in some very simple but powerful exercises, how to: Boost your confidence in a heartbeat, Programme your mind for success, Overcome fear, Eliminate stress, Tap into the potential of your amazing mind.

Gary's style is full of warmth and humour as well as being provocative. Be warned: Gary does not pull punches.

November 13th (Tuesday): Pamela Gawler-Wright
Beyond the POND: Taking modal operators of possibility to another level.

Milton Erickson told his children a story of Froggy Whitebelly who lived in a pond, believing it to be the boundaries of the whole world. Ericksonian Hypno-Psychotherapist and NLP Certified Trainer, Pamela Gawler-Wright, revives this metaphor in the POND Model, a new innovation that explores how the modal operators of possibility, permission, obligation, necessity and desire define for us our known universe. Through new active exercises and enriching background concepts, Pamela offers processes to harness and release energy and wisdom to change the frontiers of our personal maps. The POND model has been used within coaching, therapy and team-building contexts to enable individuals and groups to make innovative and life-changing leaps from their lily pads, to a wider world beyond.

Pamela will be speaking at the NLP Conference in November.

November 21st (Wednesday): PRACTICE SESSION - Tim Hodgson - Belief Change

This is the first in an experiment to also do practical pure technique sessions as well as the presentations we have been doing. Watch out for more.

Tim will facilitate a session on belief change techniques so we can all practice the technique and also learn how others teach and explain it. A very practical session.

December 11th (Tuesday): Christmas session:

A far more informal evening with various NLP games and the bar will be open. More of a chance to chat with fellow NLPers, have a bit of fun and get time to talk with people rather than listen to sessions.

2006 and before

December 12th (Tuesday): Christmas social

We leave one meeting in the year without a speaker so we have a chance to chat with others in the group, play some NLP games and eat some christmas goodies.

November 14th (Tuesday):Lynne Kerry  Values in Action

Have you ever been in a situation where you asked a question, where you thought it was reasonable to get a yes, and consistently got a NO? What is the question they are hearing? What are the values they hold that are so different from yours? What are the consequences for that person of saying yes or no?

In this session Lynne will be exploring where there might be clashes or incongruence of values, hierarchies of personal values, and the extent to which people espouse and act their values.

October 10th (Tuesday): Jenny Cox Emotional Freedom Technique

Discover the magic of the new Emotional Freedom Techniques to bring about positive change whether for yourself or your clients. The energy–based techniques are used to clear negative emotions and limiting beliefs and are astonishingly effective, though relatively new to the UK. You will be given a basic introduction to EFT and its history, how it works and what it works on. Jenny will demonstrate this simple yet effective technique which only takes minutes to perform and can be used in conjunction with NLP.

September 12th (Tuesday): Michael Beale Seduction, the NLP way

Michael has been studying and experimenting with NLP based techniques to help both women and men seduce their partners.  Following on from his session on the language of influence, this session looks a a specific application, that has wider applications as well.

August 8th (Tuesday):

This was postponed and was re-scheduled for Nov 06.

July 11th (Tuesday): Martin Eldon Introducing Time Line Therapy(TM)

An introduction to the use of Time Lines in Therapy.  This will introduce the Tad James approach to Time Lines.

June 13th (Tuesday): Hypnosis: Laura Lindell

Last year Laura ran a session for us introducing the use of hypnosis for personal change. This time she is going to expand on this topic by looking at how we can personally use some our NLP tools in combination with our self-hypnosis to enhance our personal development.

This session will be very practical and you will have lots of opportunities to practice the tools and techniques for yourself on the night.  Laura aims to cover:-

  • The use of self-hypnosis to access more resourceful states e.g. to move from a state of stress to calm, confident and in control, from anxiety to calm, from fear to confidence.

  • The use of multi-sensory anchors to rapidly enter a state of hypnosis

  • Easily access your most resourceful states

  • Setting well-formed outcomes and future pacing in hypnosis

  • The careful use of language in all of the above

The session is suitable for everyone from newcomers to NLP to those with many years of experience who would value some time to revisit and practice their skills.

May 9th (Tuesday): Jamie Smart Its time to put the L back into NLP

Jamie, renowned for his "If NLP is so good where is my Ferrari" presentation will be presenting something different to us.  His session will focus on Language.

April 11th (Tuesday): Gerry Talbot & Zena Knight "SO, WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

"How to get what you want -and like what you got!" The session will focus on the six steps to a well-formed outcome and the practical implementation of these in different contexts. The overall aim is to introduce/re-emphasise how NLP can assist ONLY if people are absolutely clear on what they want to achieve. In our experience this is the main downfall of most individuals whether planning a career change or moving house!

The approach will be a mix of input from the front, group exercises and an opportunity for questions and discussion. So, our objectives of the session? By the end of our session the group will:
- understand that in order to set and achieve goals the six step process is essential
- understand how a certain metaprogramme will affect how individuals set goals
- be able to apply the six steps to a personal goal over the coming weeks
- make a commitment to themselves to apply the steps to a specific goal

March 14th (Tuesday): Bruce Grimley  The NLP presuppositions as a basis for changing your life

NLP has a series of pre-suppositions: "The map is not the territory", "There is no failure - only feedback", "There is an unconscious positive intent in every behaviour", "Any behaviour, no matter how bizarre it appears, is the best choice available to that person at the time", etc.

In this session, Bruce will explore the power of the pre-suppositions and give people a chance to take them into their lives so they can make a genuine difference.

February 16th (Thursday): Informal discussion and meal

Last year we had a session where we just took over a table and chatted a a group.  Both the food and conversation went down well, so we are repeating it.  A chance to talk in more detail with people in the group, over a bite to eat and a drink in the restaurant.

February 8th (Wednesday): Michael Beale The Language of influence: Eriksonian language and hypnosis

As you take part in this session, Michael will give us a chance to understand, practice and explore the powerful patterns of language that Milton Erikcson used to change people's lives in hypnotherapy and that we can use in everyday circumstances to influence what people are paying attention to.  Now that would be powerful, wouldn't it?

January 10th (Tuesday): Meta-programmes Phil Jones

A practical session learning about, reviewing and practicing the NLP meta programmes. This year we start off with the chance to learn, practice, refresh a core NLP component. Meta-programmes. These are the underlying thinking patterns that we have. Examples include both motivational traits and styles of working, such as : Away from/towards thinking, Active/reactive, Internally or eternally referenced, Sameness/difference, Person/thing, Independent/proximity/cooperative, Specific/general, Rule structure
etc.

All fascinating stuff. we should have time to cover the patterns, how to elicit and recognise them, and as usual it will be a chance for people with all levels of NLP experience to learn something and practice and develop their skills and awareness.
